Gandhi Jayanti

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall — think of it, always."
- Mohandas Karamchand Ghandi

Today is Gandhi Jayanti, the national holiday celebrated in India to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation".

(the following is once again borrowed from Wikipedia)
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian Independence Movement. He was the pioneer of Satyagraha (resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, firmly founded upon ahimsa, or total non-violence) which led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. He is commonly known around the world as Mahatma Gandhi ("Mahatma" meaning "Great Soul"). He is also referred to in India as Bapu, or "Father".
